I’m so glad you asked for my thoughts on the 2022 NOBULL CrossFit Games. I have lots of thoughts on it.
I love CrossFit.
Do I participate in CrossFit? NOPE.
Have I watched every single CrossFit Games Documentary? YES
I am consistently in awe of what these athletes can accomplish.
I have spent the past weekend watching and listening to the CrossFit Games and Recap shows & these are my random thoughts from this years Games.
Sandbag Ladder/// OMG! Did that really happen?! The strength in this event is BEYOND impressive. The sheer size of those sandbags were crazy and the fact they were getting these up on their shoulders is mind blowing. LOVED the surprise bag for the men!
Capitol Event/// The fact that the fans technically did not have to buy tickets to the event and they got to see the athletes in the wild was really cool. I loved that they didn’t close the course either; what a neat story to say you were running with Tia-Clair Toomey or Gui Malherios!
Celebrating Age Group & Adaptive/// On Saturday night, in the Colosseum, The CrossFit Games brought all the winners out and gave them their time to shine under the lights and be recognized for all the work they did! I think they don’t always get the airtime they deserve. I hope this is the right direction they are moving in for the future.
Teams/// I usually don’t watch the team events but two teams had two of my favorites on them so I had to watch. Annie Thorsdottir and Tyler Watkins were competing and seeing the teams, they were intense! The BOB sleds- OMG! I loved seeing them synchronized and in tune with each other.
Brooke Wells/// One of my favorite people. Her comeback story was one of my favorite story lines from the weekend. Watching her at last year’s games with her elbow injury made me so sad BUT seeing her push herself this year and do SO good in the competition (5th Place) shows how strong-both mentally and physically- she really is.
Hailey Adams/// Loved loved loved that she won the very first event of this years games. She is another athlete that I love watching her grit and determination. She moved with ease through certain events like this wasn’t hard for her. Its always impressive seeing what these athletes can do.
Roman Khrennikov/// The moment at the end of the Rinse and Repeat event where you saw him, point to himself and said “I won?” was just such a wholesome moment. Watching him work his way through the weekend was amazing. He’s a beast and I’m pretty sure I don’t want to mess with him.
Justin Mederios/// I love his “just happy to be here ” attitude. His family wearing the white leaders jerseys made me smile AND then when they announced he won, he didn’t run down on the floor, he ran over to his family to hug them. Sigh! So Sweet
Tia-Clair Toomey/// Her family was at the last event of the weekend! Usually you just see her husband cheering her on. It was so sweet to see her parents all wearing the white leaders jerseys too. Rumor has it (and according to Sean Woodward during the live broadcast) this is her last games appearance. She has won SIX of Games consecutively. She has beat the men out for that title (Mat Fraser & Rich Froning) Girl Power!
Recaps with Adrian Bozman and Sevan/// I found out about The Sevan Podcasts from Kyle and during the Games, Sevan would do a recap for each event. I started the week off strong listening to these recaps BUT then they started getting SO long that I found there was not enough hours in the day to listen to the recap and watch all the events. I ended up listening to the Day recap with Adrian Bozman and Sevan. I found those so enjoyable and made me love the Games even more. I loved the behind the scenes perspective Boz provided. I have to finish the final day recap and the games recap with Boz and I cannnot wait!
Teen Takeover/// Four Athletes in the individual were teenagers! The youngest athlete competing in the individual event was Emma Lawson. She proved she could run with the big dogs. She finished 6th overall. Mallory O’Brien is 18 and has one of the best coaches in the world (Mat Fraser) and she finished 2nd. Both Paige Powers and Tudor Magda are 19 and they finished 25th and 34th respectively. So impressive what these teens are doing!
Community/// I think the one of the most iconic photos from this years Games is Rebecca Fuselier, the last person in the event, going up the Capitol steps. You see Adrian Bozman, the one who programmed the games, did a great thing to have everyone around her/behind her cheering her on. You could tell she really wanted to finish and to have the crowds support around her, it gave me goosebumps.
Another neat moment was when Tia-Clair and some other women walked back and stood next to the last athletes, trying to complete the Back Nine and Alpaca events. Even though its a competition, the athletes celebrate each other’s wins and support and cheer each other on to finish. Its really unique, I think for individual sports. I am happy to see there still are kind people out there.
Dave vs. Boz/// Love them both. They both have unique things about them that make them them and they both have done a great job with the games. They have two different perspectives on the games coming from two different backgrounds and I think that really shined through when you look at thee events from this year compared to last year. Boz programmed the events this year with some really cool and unique elements. Dave was really intentional with his tests. Both provided the athletes and spectators with something really cool and special to both watch and participate in.

Whew! I think that wraps it up for me and my two sense about The CrossFit Games.
Cant’t wait until next year to see who wins!
Do you watch the CrossFit Games?
