When I was looking for races in April, I came across this virtual race- Easter Hop.
April was an odd month for races, I like sticking with themes and the Easter Hop was perfect! I love bunnies and this race benefits the Easter Seals.
My outfit was super simple this race: Black yoga pants, an Easter themed tee shirt from Amazon and Easter socks from the Dollar Tree.
Week of Race
The weather this week was perfect so I was able to go on 3 walks to get my legs moving. Lots of hills and a faster pace. It felt good to move this week.
Night Before
I got my outfit together and did some light stretching.
Morning of Race
I ran this on Good Friday and the morning was spent staying hydrated and getting some things done around the house.
Since this is a virtual race, I pick where and when I want to complete it. I looked at the weather and it seemed that the afternoon was going to be the best weather of the day. I was really hoping for the weather to be just as nice as it was the day before but it ended up being kind of cold. The last two 5k’s I’ve run have been freezing. I decided to opt to run this indoors on the treadmill.
Right Before
I got to the gym and found the perfect treadmill and I did a 5 minute walk warm up.
During
Well the first mile and half went great. I had a nice pace set 4.7 speed. I was really excited that it didn’t seem too hard; I thought to myself I can possibly run this whole thing instead of doing my normal walk run pattern.
Well, as I approached the half way point, that idea of running the whole thing went out the window. I decided to walk for a quarter mile then back to running. I did that 3 times for a total of 3/4’s of a mile walked and run for 2.36 miles.
When I was walking, I kept the pace up at about 4.0 speed and when I would get back to running, I would get the pace up to 4.7-4.9. The last quarter mile, I wanted to push myself and I ended up pushing the speed to 5.1.
After
I was exhausted and happy to be done. I didn’t complete the 5K in the goal time of 36 minutes as I wanted to BUT I am happy with running half of the 5K.
Results
I had a slight mishap…. I paused the treadmill and I accidently hit the emergency stop button so my Stats were erased 😔 I have no idea how my hand slipped and did this BUT it did. But here’s what I remember:
41 minutes
13:08 Pace
3.12 miles
Speed varied between 4.3 and 5.1
The results from my Fitbit:
40:42 minutes
12:07 Pace
3.36 miles
To get a full picture:
Average between treadmill and FitBit:
Time:39.26
Pace: 12:57
Distance:3.24
Slightly outside of the norm BUT I am happy that I did run 1.5 miles continuously.
Music
Once the “race” was getting closer, I started to compile my playlist for the race. I knew since this race was going to be virtual, my music was going to be very important. I picked songs intentionally to keep a steady pace and to keep me going.
You can list to this race’s playlist here.
